Do you have a two’o clock friend to whom you can call without any fear of disturbing or troubling in the moments of sadness, need, fear or celebration..

or

Someone with whom you have laughed with till tears started rolling..

or

Someone who has pushed you to push your limits.

Well, if you have either of these, consider yourself really lucky and I always say, everyone must have at least one such friend.

“A friend is the one who overlooks your broken fence and admires the flowers in your garden”.

I have always been more of a few “best friends” rather than a lot of acquaintances kind of a person and those relationships meant a lot to me. As a child, our family was moving very often and so I could make new friends at each place, but often the past contacts were lost and only memories were left to be treasured. As I grew it became more difficult to form those deep connects with many as I kept juggling between work, home, and kids. But sometimes we get along with some people so well with a blink of an eye that it's like “where have you been all this while”.And in my short journey of life, I found such beautiful people. People who could see positives in my negatives, who always stood with me in my thick and thin. They picked me up when I was low or off track, and never left me alone. We have laughed and cried together, celebrated and mourned together, shopped, travelled, and drank together. We fought hard with each other at times but forgave quickly too. They made me feel loved and cared for without any expectations in return and I could be me without being judged before them.

Friends help us grow. I always say, friendship is the most important relationship in one’s life. If you have the right set of friends your roller-coaster life gets much more easier and is fun to live. I have lived the saying that “True friends stay forever, beyond words, beyond distance and beyond time”. And as time has passed I am grateful to have those few but genuine friends in my life who can read my mind and who always show up. They lift me up and make me who I am today.

If you are fortunate you shall definitely find a friend like that, and once you do, hold on to that person for life. Such friendships are worth fighting for. So as you read this think who is that one friend in your life!!

Over the last few years, the following is what I have learnt about having a great friendship:

  1. Take out time: We all are very busy and time and attention is the best gift we can give to a relationship. Connect with your friends or loved ones it will give you peace and strengthen the bond.
  2. Be there: I have erratic schedules of work, two little kids, but I keep sane mostly :) because I know I have my friends to fall upon when I need them and I know they know they can count on me. I know I have friends whom when I need will drop everything and run to me and laugh and cry with me and they know I am there with them the same way.
  3. Be True: Every relationship requires trust and truth, so be open. If you want your friends to help you grow and give an honest feedback on things, then give them the comfort that they can speak the truth to you and vice a versa. The foundation of any relationship is trust and honesty.
  4. Don't Force It: Let the friendship stay beautiful. Know when to take a deep breathe and let it go. If it's meant to be it will be.
  5. Respect each other’s space: Every person has a different way of dealing with a situation, as a friend we need to understand the other person’s way and accordingly give space when needed.
  6. Let Gender not define your Friendship: Don’t let societal taboos decide who you should be friends with. Be with someone who can read your moods, understand you, and who is with you always, male or female should not matter. Your comfort and the bond is all that matters.

So think of your best buddy and send him/her a virtual hug. Be grateful for the beautiful relationship that you have in your life and for the person who tells you “You Can Count on me”

Do let us know how you liked the read.
